Light and easy to hold! Love it!Love the look and feel of these. Disappointed in the fact that one spoon already has a scratch in the surface of its bowl. Have followed the directions for care exactly as specified so found this upsetting as they are brand new. They seemed like good quality from a good company with a great reputation. I’m surprise$ the finish is so shallow or so soft that careful use still led to a scratch.We were gifted with a set as a wedding gift 12 years ago. They are still holding strong. We use them every single meal and they are so amazing. I just purchased this second set because we have a growing family. The set is for 8. I needed more because when we have family over 8 isn’t enough. Plastic ware could be used and are on some occasions. Want to dazzle your guests with polished utensils. I highly recommend this set.I have noticed after 12 years the Polish isn’t so polished after thousands of uses and probably should be expected; I compared them to the brand new set.If I ever purchase again I might consider a different style to change things up a bit. I would probably need to purchase two sets. So, if purchasing multiple sets works give a discount it would help.Will purchase this brand again!I purchased Provence set back in early 2000s, I was pleasantly surprised that the Provence set was still made after 15+ years so it made it very easy the decision very easy to purchase the same set to have all matching flatware.Grazie MilleI love the feel of the knife, which is a little heftier than my current Oneida flatware. I also appreciate that the knife is one piece. The tablespoon is also just the right weight for me and the larger bowl, like European flatware is what drew me to this set. I would really like the option of purchasing additional teaspoons, though. I use them very often throughout the day.I can't speak to the durability yet, but I do like the design and weight of this set. My favorite aspect so far is the smoothness of the pieces. Every edge is well rounded and extremely polished making them great to hold and put in you mouth. (sounds odd as I type that, but this is flatware) My least favorite is the width of the spoons. They are a little wide for my liking, but I'm sure I will get used to them.The box this silverware set arrives in calls it “European Design”, also called "Continental Size" on the amazon page. That means the pieces are overall a bit larger than the typical set sold in the U.S. I was looking for a flatware set for my son, moving into his first apartment. I wanted substantial silverware and boy, does this fit the bill!I’ve attached a photo showing a J.A. Henckels “Provence” dinner spoon (the larger of the two place-setting spoons) on the left, and my Oneida dinner spoon on the right. My Oneida spoon is typically sized: 6 ¾’ long, with a bowl that is 1 ½” wide and 2 ¼” long. The Provence dinner spoon is 7 ¼” long, with a bowl that is the same width (1 ½”), but 2 ¾” long. This is a good sized spoon and a great fit for larger hands, or someone just used to using continental-sized flatware.The measurements for the other “Provence” place setting utensils:Teaspoon….almost 6 ½’ long in total, the bowl is almost 1 3/8” wide and 2 ¼” longDinner Fork….almost 8” longSalad Fork….about 7” longDinner Knife….9 ¼” longNot surprisingly, given the larger size, the “Provence” flatware pieces are also heftier than my Oneida. Or typical silverware you find in restaurants. Which brings up my second criteria while searching for silverware.I wanted 18/10 stainless steel. It costs more, but it looks better longer. This is something I’m sure my kid could care less about. But if you look at the picture I’ve attached once again, the “Provence” spoon on the left has gone through the dishwasher once. The Oneida spoon on the right has been in daily use for 30 years. It has some dents, and wouldn’t be confused with brand new, but it still has a bright shiny surface.In short: Stainless steel silverware generally has 18% chromium. That's the 18 in the 18/10, 18/8 and 18/0 designations. Nickel is added for corrosion resistance. That's the 10, 8 or 0 after the slash. Stainless silverware with zero nickel added loses its luster after a couple years. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, it just won't have the shiny polish anymore. Think of how most restaurant silverware does not have the new-silverware luster.This set is 18/10, meaning it has at least 10% nickel. High-end 18/10 silverware has more than 10%. 18/10 costs more, but it will stay beautifully shiny for decades. (If it doesn't, definitely take advantage of the warranty.)There is no silverware that looks new forever, but 18/10 is the way to go for me. Someday my son will thank me. Ordering my 3rd set to have more spoons and forks now that my kids are using them.
